Growing up Dr. Jon was involved in a number of sports, including volleyball, basketball, cross country running and track and field (specifically 400m hurdles) to name a few. Naturally these activities led to more than a handful of injuries along the way. Luckily, his track and field coach at the time was an excellent evidenced-based chiropractor and helped him keep competing at a high level. Seeing how impactful chiropractic could be for himself, this inspired a passion to pursue a career in the healthcare field.
After high school he went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in Kinesiology from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo and then continued his education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree.
Ironically, despite spending hours learning about the human body and how to prevent injury, these years of study definitely took a toll on his own body. Hours spent hunched over textbooks and laptops combined with the stress of navigating an intense chiropractic curriculum led to all sorts of issues like frequent headaches, jaw pain from clenching, neck, upper back and lower back pain. He learned a lot about the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle and the challenge of structuring good self care habits in the midst of it all. From that experience, he has plenty of empathy for desk bound patients who struggle with intense workloads, life stress and are finding it very difficult to find the time for effective self care.
Since graduating in 2017, he's taken multiple continuing education courses that have enhanced his clinical skills in areas such as assessment, peripheral nerve treatment, rehabilitation, soft tissue technique, biomechanics and pain science. His patient-centered treatment plans incorporate a variety of techniques; not just chiropractic adjustments.
In his spare time, he does his best to maintain an active lifestyle by playing pick up basketball, running and mixing in some strength training while working at Umana Health. He also enjoys playing music as an acoustic singer-songwriter and playing live shows at both paid and fundraiser events.
